Forensic Nursing: Finding the Best Ways to Assess Bruises

[MUSIC PLAYING] SPEAKER 1: Ow. KATHERINE SCAFIDE:
A common problem we would run into as
forensic nurses is a difficulty in detecting
and seeing bruises. Unfortunately if we
can’t see a bruise when we assess
victims of violence, we can’t document them. And if we can’t
document them, we have nothing to provide
the police to the courts to testify to when
we go to court. So it’s really a disservice
to victims of violence if we can’t properly
assess their bruises. If we can determine whether
or not this technology really does work in
detecting bruises, it will provide support for
these practitioner still testify to in court.
