Good Samaritan saves injured bald eagle


WEEKEND.>>>BEAUTIFIEBUT FIRST HERE THE SURVIVAL OF A BALD EAGLE THANKS TO A GOOD SAMARITAN PASSING THROUGH CHESTER COUNTY. THE BALD EAGLE WAS LEFT STRANDED ON ROUTE 30 IN DOWNINGTOWN AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR. NEW AT 4:00 TODAY “ACTION NEWS” REPORTER ANNIE McCORMICK SPOKE TO THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR SAVING THAT BIRD’S LIFE.>>♪>>Reporter: THIS IMAGE OF MODAN MILLER. MILLER SAVED THE INJURED BIRD A SYMBOL OF AMERICA FROM A ROUTE 30 WEST. TRAFFIC STOPPED AND MILLER JUMPED TO HELP.>>FIRST CHANCES TO GET THE EAGLE OFF THE ROAD THROUGH — GET THE EAGLE SAFE AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE ELSE WAS SAFE.>>Reporter: MILLER WRAPPED IN IT A FLANNEL SHIRT. PENNSYLVANIA STATE TROOPERS AND EXPERTS FROM TRI-STATE BIRD RESCUE AND RESEARCH RESPONDED.>>PRETTY GENTLE AND EVERYTHING. HE DIDN’T COULD HAVE HURT ME BUT, YEAH, HE WAS DEFINITELY GENTLE.>>THIS IS A BIRD, A BIRD OF PREY, YOU KNOW, IT’S MASSIVE.>>Reporter: DAN MACALASTER WITNESSED THE MOMENT AFTER THE RESCUE. HE RAN OVER TO HELP SINCE HE HAS EXPERIENCE HANDLING WILDLIFE BUT MILLER HAD IT UNDER CONTROL HOLDING THE EAGLE FOR 45 MINUTES. EXPERTS ESTIMATE THE EAGLE IS A FIVE-YEAR-OLD FEMALE. FEMALES ARE GENERALLY LAMPER AND CAN HAVE A WING SPAN OF SIX TO SEVEN AND A HALF FEET. THE BIRD HAS INJURIES TO ITS FEET AND ONE WING PLUS A MILD EYE INJURY BUT NO BROKEN BONES AND SHE’S EATING ON HER OWN BEING TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS AND PAIN MEDICATIONS AND RECEIVING FLUIDS. MILLER TODAY IS STAYING HUMBLE ABOUT THE RESCUE.>>I’M SURE SOMEBODY ELSE WOULD HAVE SNAGGED HIM UP ALSO. YEAH, I WAS HAPPY I WAS THERE TO GET HIM OFF THE ROAD AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.>>Reporter: MCALLISTER SAYS AT THE SCENE THERE WERE SIGNS EVERYWHERE THEY WERE MEANT TO HELP THIS EAGLE.>>I WORK FOR A COMPANY CALLED EAGLE POWER AND EQUIPMENT. I DRIVE A GOLDEN EAGLE JEEP. THE GUY WHO ACTUALLY GOT HIS HANDS ON THE BIRD AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF THE HIGHWAY HAS A GIANT EAGLE TATTOO ON HIS FOREARM AND WAS WEARING A TRICK EAGLE BIKE SHOP BIKE SHIRT. SIGNS OF THE EAGLES EVERYWHERE.>>Reporter: THE EXPERTS IN DELAWARE SAY THAT THERE ARE CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC FOR HER RELEASE BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW THAT WING INJURY HEELS.

  1. I salute you, Dandon! No doubt that Eagle appreciate your help too seeing as how she didn't resist. I'm an Eagle lover too. I've got ceramic, metal, brass and carved wooden Eagles sitting all around inside my house.

    On a different note, I hope that reporter didn't get stung by that wasp that was flying around her.

    And, no, someone else might not have snagged the eagle up – not before upsetting it with all the selfies stupid people with phones take now. Thanks for taking charge .
