The unhinged vagrant accused of bludgeoning four homeless men to death with a pipe in Chinatown is now suspected of trying to kill another homeless man a week earlier, police said Tuesday  Investigators believe Randy Rodriguez Santos attacked a man sleeping on a bench in Hudson River Park on W 29th St. near the Chelsea Piers about 12:50 a.m. Sept. 27. Advertisement  “We have an active investigation into another incident where Mr Santos may have played a role,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said at a press conference at the police academy in College Point, Queens  The 38-year-old victim was beaten with a stick and nearly pitched over a banister into the river, police said A witness saw the attack.  A 19-year-old man walking by ran up and intervened before the victim could be thrown in the water  The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital with three cuts to his neck and bruising to the face  Santos hasn’t been charged in the September attack as detectives continue their investigation  “We have recovered video of Mr. Santos, not close, but approximately seven blocks away where he could have absolutely been on that scene,” said Shea, who added that the victim was unable to describe his attacker  “He was not readily capable of providing significant facts,” Shea said, adding that the victim was sleeping when the suspect jumped him  Santos, 24, is already facing four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for allegedly bashing in the heads of five sleeping homeless men in Chinatown early Saturday morning Only one victim survived.  Santos, who is also homeless and has a history of violent arrests, drug abuse and mental health issues, admitted to attacking the victims  Cops responding to a 911 call of an assault in progress found Chuen Kwok, 83, beaten to death on the street in front of a building on Bowery near Doyers St  After discovering the bludgeoned senior, cops found a 49-year-old man conscious and bleeding from the head He was rushed to Lower Manhattan Hospital with a skull fracture. The surviving victim remained in critical condition after being transferred to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, police sources said About a block away on East Broadway near Catherine St., cops found Anthony Manson, 49, and Nazario A Vazquez Villegas, 55, dead from devastating head trauma along with a homeless man authorities still have not been able to identify  Police caught up to Santos carrying a pipe covered in blood and hair on Mulberry and Canal Sts , about a half-mile from the gruesome crime scenes, according to authorities.  Santos is being held without bail on Rikers Island
